NICOLE KIERNAN

Nicole Kiernan is a ceramic artist whose work explores the deep entanglements between psychological and ecological landscapes. Drawing from a background in both fine art and a career in mental health, she investigates how collective consciousness shapes—and is shaped by—our environmental realities. Her vessels, often marked by the raw evidence of fire, ash, and elemental texture, become quiet meditations on shared memory, grief, resilience, and regeneration.

Through process-intensive firing methods—such as anagama and atmospheric firings—Kiernan’s ceramics act as quiet witnesses to transformation. Her practice honors slowness, attention, and the inevitability of change, inviting viewers to consider not only the contents of a vessel, but its role as a reflective space. In Kiernan’s work, the vessel becomes less a container than an artifact of time, touch, and transformation—reminding us of our place within larger, living systems.
